Another close one...

OK, so we like to keep our fans at the edge of their seats...what's wrong with that? I'm talking about our match yesterday against NAIA opponent Ohio Dominican University where we had to go the distance for the 3rd time this year (out of 6 matches!) before bringing home the "W". What was neat about this match was that we once again were able to play all 9 girls in the starting line-up and get contributions from all sorts of places: singles, doubles, top of the line-up, bottom of the line-up, etc... It's really nice to have the luxury of that depth and the piece of mind that on any given day, any of the girls can step up and deliver. A good example of this was Rebecca, who had been undefeated so far in singles (in the spring) going into this match. Rebecca played a very tricky opponent at #4 singles (highest position she's played in her young career) on Saturday and lost, but was able to contribute a huge point in doubles with Emily at the #3 slot. Liz on the other hand who hasn't performed the way she has wanted (and we know she can!), stepped up yesterday and pulled out a crucial win at #5 as did our new, for this spring, addition Carolyn who left no doubt on anyone's mind as who the best player was on that #6 court...

All in all another great win for our team and a great boost of confidence for us heading into our trip to the "City of Brotherly Love" next weekend to take on Swarthmore (Sat) and Haverford (Sun).

Lloyd!!

I am sure many of you seen the infamous show Entourage on HBO, but did you know the Ari Gold's assistant Lloyd is really Oberlin College graduate Rex Lee. Recently, Lee was back on campus for an interview with Associate Professor of Theater and Dance Matthew Wright where they chatted about Hollywood, Lee’s time at Oberlin and how he got to where he is now. Off to a great start!

It's always great to start the season with some W's to boost your confidence and our team did just that last Saturday! In the morning, we beat a much improved Baldwin-Wallace team 5-4. We always have close matches with the Yellow Jackets and this year it was no different! Rebecca came up big in singles, reeling off 12 straight games (who does that?!) to clinch the match for us at the #5 spot. Our #1 and #3 doubles teams also played very well and gave us confidence on the front end of the match. #3 actually had a comeback of their own, coming back from 3-6 down to win 8-6! Wow!

In the nightcap, we beat a young Malone team 9-0. We were a little shaky in doubles after the long morning match, but pulled all of them out. Then in singles, we were able to find a rhythm and won convincingly in every spot.

No rest for the weary however as tomorrow (2/17) we're playing a much improved Case Western team at home again at 6:30 pm. It'll be another good test for our young squad.

I'm including a few pictures from last weekend courtesy of coach Shoemaker.
